Logo Design and Folder Design for the Ocean Gate development
Boyce Brixham is a prominent estate agent in the heart of South Devon. They have been selling properties in Brixham and surrounding areas since 1925 and pride themselves on their local knowledge, reputation and personal service.
Over recent years Boyce Brixham has worked with local developers to push boundaries and create fantastic contemporary properties to sell in Brixham. One of which is a small local town-house development called Ocean Gate.
- Logo design
- Folder design
After recently helping Boyce Brixham with their ‘For Sale’ board project, they approached us to create an oversized A4 folder for their Ocean Gate development in Brixham, which needed to follow an existing cutter template.
The project required a new logo design, consideration for a business card slot, a map, some external imagery, the Boyce Brixham logo and some inviting body copy.
Kicking off with the logo design, we wanted to create an identity to represent the name ‘Ocean Gate’. After our initial sketches, some interesting shapes were created by cleverly combining the letters O and G together. The shape resembled an ‘Ammonite’, which is quite an iconic and recognisable ocean mollusc. All were in agreement that this suited the development feel really well. So upon further development of the shape, a perfect spiral was created with added varying line weights to make it truly unique.
The supporting text complemented the logo motif perfectly, using fine serifs for the word Ocean and a lightweight sans-serif font for the word Gate. For each of the words, the kerning was increased to add a bit more breathing space around each letter; providing a contemporary result.
Naturally, with a name like ‘Ocean Gate’, we wanted an oceanic turquoise and grey colour scheme to suit the name, coastal location and development.
For the folder design, we wanted to create a design that looked very modern and clean. To do this, we wanted to keep the front cover simple with a solid turquoise background and a new logo sat prominently in the centre. The inside left was where we chose to put the important development information which included some exterior images, along with a bullet point list of main external and internal features.
For the reverse of the folder, we chose to place a location aerial map of the development and a view from the development, the Ocean Gate logo, the Boyce Brixham logo and information on Brixham and the surrounding area.
The overall result was a clean, well-executed folder design printed onto a 350gsm Silk Board and matt laminated to create a stylish and tactile finish.
The development was further complemented by a site board that utilised many of the elements from the folder.
